The Department is actively engaged in training the next generation of physicians and educating the leaders of tomorrow in patient care, biomedical research, and medical education. The Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania is the oldest and one of the finest medical schools in the United States and consistently ranks among the top five in US News and World Report’s rankings of research-oriented medical schools.
Among the medical school’s electives supervised and taught by Department faculty members and house staff are:
Surgical Pathology, Clinical Pathology, Autopsy Pathology, Immunohematology (Transfusion Medicine), Neuropathology, Cytopathology, Gastrointestinal and Hepatobiliary Pathology, Pediatric Pathology (at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia), and Effective Use of Clinical Laboratory Testing.
The Department also arranges clinical/bench research experience through a post-sophomore Student Pathology Fellowship and the option of a research elective or scholarly project involvement with individual faculty members.
