2017 CAP Inspection Concludes

August 11, 2017

The biennial College of American Pathologists (CAP) inspection of the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine operations at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, PPMC, and Penn Medicine’s other affiliated offsite laboratory facilities (Penn Medicine Radnor, Penn Medicine Rittenhouse Square, and Penn Medicine Cherry Hill) was concluded this week.

The summation report confirmed the highest standards in quality, laboratory leadership, and day-to-day laboratory operations for the Department’s major divisions -- Laboratory Medicine, Anatomic Pathology and Neuropathology, Hematopathology, and Precision and Computational Diagnostics. In particular, the team of inspectors, led by Dr. Kenneth Rand of the University of Florida, praised the laboratories’ top-notch quality care, the excellent personnel, as well as the overall helpfulness and cordiality of all staff members during the course of the inspections. After the Summation Conference, the Director of the Division of Laboratory Medicine and Laboratory Director under CLIA Dr. Irving Nachamkin conveyed his gratitude and appreciation for a job well done to all the inspectors as well as to the laboratory staff, supervisors, managers, and faculty as well as hospital administration during the CAP inspection and praised the Department's consistent focus on continuous improvement to excel.
