At this year's Annual Meeting of the USCAP at National Harbor, Maryland, Xiaoming Zhang, MD, PGY-2 Resident, received the 1st Place Award for the 2019 Best Abstract by the International Association of Chinese Pathologists (IACP). The award was given for her work entitled "Vasculitis Involving the Gastrointestinal System is Often Incidental but Critically Important." The IACP is a professional association for pathologists from different disciplines and fields, both in the clinical and the research arena. The IACP annual meeting is typically held as a side meeting in conjunction with the annual meeting of the United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology (USCAP). Pathology trainees (a resident, fellow, or student) who have first-authored research abstracts accepted for presentation at the USCAP Annual Meeting are eligible for the IACP Best Abstract Award.

Her abstract "Pediatric Mismatch Repair Deficient Solid Tumors Detected by Immunohistochemistry are Rare but Enriched in the Central Nervous System: Implications for Checkpoint Inhibitor Therapy" received the Gordon F. Vawter Pathologist-in-Training Award. The SPP Vawter Award recognizes meritorious work by medical students, residents, and fellows.
