Study Finds Immune System Protein Prompts Obese Mice to 'Sweat' Out Fat

July 29, 2021

Treating obese mice with the cytokine known as TSLP led to significant abdominal fat and weight loss compared to controls, according to new research published Thursday in Science. Careful measurements revealed that the animals' weight loss was not the result of burning calories any faster or eating less food. The real answer was that the mice were "sweating”"out fatty molecules through their skin. The study, published in Science, was led by Taku Kambayashi, MD, PhD, Associate Professor of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, and fourth-year medical student Ruth Choa, PhD.
