The National Blood Foundation (NBF) recently announced that Mobin Karimi, MD, PhD, a postdoctoral researcher in the Kambayashi Lab at the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, is one of five recipients of their 2016 Scientific Research Grants for his project “Separation of GVHD and GVT Responses by Modulation of T Cell Signaling Pathways.” The project’s topic is to investigate the role and mechanism of the transcription factor Eomesodermin in regulating cytotoxic responses of T cells after allogeneic bone marrow transplantation (BMT) in cellular therapy approaches against malignancies. Dr. Karimi is the first or co-author of 14 peer review research articles in publications such as Blood, Journal of Immunology, Journal of Clinical Investigation, PLoS ONE, and Cancer Research. The scientific research early-career grants by the NBF, part of the AABB, are intended to support researchers with up to $75,000 in the early stage of their careers toward becoming independently funded investigators in topics that can advance transfusion medicine, cellular therapies and patient blood management.
