Stem Cell Lab Part of New Treatment for Lung Complications

September 21, 2018

The Stem Cell Lab in the Division of Transfusion Medicine and Therapeutic Pathology is part of a nationwide trial of a treatment called MultiStem, which uses adult stem cells to battle  acute respiratory distress syndrome, a potentially life-threatening complication that can result from a severe case of the flu or other major infection. 6ABC spoke with Nuala Meyer, MD, an assistant professor in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine, and Don Siegel, MD, PhD, a professor of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, in coverage of the trial. The Stem Cell Lab, under the leadership of Mary Sell, is involved in preparing the stem cell product for the patient and has been instrumental in making the trial possible.
