Dr. Yanxiang Deng Named 2023 Blavatnik Regional Award Laureate in Life Sciences
August 18, 2023
Yanxiang Deng, PhD, Assistant Professor of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine in the Division of Diagnostic Innovation, was named the 2023 Blavatnik Regional Awards Laureate in Life Sciences.
Dr. Deng was honored for developing a "novel microfluidic method for 'spatial-omics' to profile the expression of RNA, proteins, and epigenetic markers across spatially organized groups of cells in tissues." Dr. Deng combines engineering and high-throughput cell profiling in the development of "spatial-omics" tools that provide a unique understanding into how cells change their behavior relative to their location in a complex tissue. He was nominated for the Blavatnik Awards by Yale University, where he recently completed his post-doctoral training in Biomedical Engineering. More information about Dr. Deng's work can be found on his Blavatnik Awards honoree profile, as well as his laboratory website.
The Blavatnik Awards for Young Scientists were established by the Blavatnik Family Foundation and are administered by the The New York Academy of Sciences. The program aims to recognize and encourage scientists in early stages of their careers that work in one of three disciplinary categories - Life Sciences, Physical Sciences & Engineering and Chemistry. The Regional Awards celebrate outstanding post-doctoral researchers specifically from institutions in New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut. Awards of unrestricted funds are granted each year to one Laureate and two Finalists in each disciplinary category. Blavatnik Regional Awards Winners and Finalists are also honored at the New York Academy of Sciences Annual Gala in November.
