Each year, Philadelphia Magazine compiles its "Top Doctors" list of the region's best physicians. Six out of the eight top pathologists in the region are Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine faculty members. They are among the 531 Penn physicians who were included in the 202 list published in the May issue. The top pathologists are Adam Bagg, MD (specialties hematopathology, leukemia and lymphoma, myelodysplastic syndromes), Zubair W. Baloch, MD, PhD (specialties endocrine pathology, cytopathology, and ENT pathology), David E. Elder, MBChB (specialty dermatopathology), Franz Fogt, MD (PPMC, specialties gastrointestinal pathology, ophthalmic pathology), Virginia A. LiVolsi, MD (specialties endocrine cancers, thyroid, parathyroid pathology, gynecological pathology), , and Xiaowei (George) Xu, MD, PhD (specialty dermatopathology).
