Highlighting Penn Medicine Phlebotomy and our partnerships
As part of Penn Medicine's partnerships with several local sports organizations, HUP Phlebotomy provides exceptional care to these teams during their pre-season medical days. These high-profile partnerships are just a few examples of how our Department brings the world-class medical care that Penn is known for to the public. These medical days bring us into a world we never thought we would see. Our professional staff have become a requested yearly need, and we are more than happy to oblige.
This is not the first request to bring our expertise outside the hospital. We have attended medical fairs throughout our area, bringing the lab into the community.
Beyond the blood draw, our Phlebotomy team has internally been a key educator for our providers, nurses, medical assistants and research coordinators. We partner with our dental students, providing competence and education on proper drawing. Our providers who go to Botswana come through our PCAM 1 Outpatient Lab receiving education and competency to prepare them for their time away. We have developed slide decks to assist our nurses and medical assistance who draw labs both in the inpatient and outpatient areas. Phlebotomy also will provide one-on-one training for hard draws, train the trainer on our inpatient units and all pre-analytical needs to equip the lab with quality specimens.
HUP Phlebotomy has become a key team player not just internally, but externally. We strive to be better, do better, and continue to improve our role as an essential part of the medical team.
