CAP Inspection Concludes
August 21, 2015
The biennial College of American Pathologists (CAP) inspection of the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine operations at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, PPMC, and Penn Medicine’s other affiliated offsite laboratory facilities (including Radnor, Rittenhouse Square, Valley Forge, and Cherry Hill) was concluded on Friday, August 21, 2015. The summation report confirmed the highest standards in quality, laboratory leadership, and day-to-day laboratory operations for the Department’s major divisions -- Laboratory Medicine, Anatomic Pathology, Hematopathology, Molecular Genomic Pathology, and Transfusion Medicine and Therapeutic Pathology. In particular, the team of twenty inspectors, led by Dr. William Funkhouser from the University of North Carolina School of Medicine, praised the laboratories’ well-maintained document controls and reporting processes, the organizational structure and excellent personnel, as well as the overall helpfulness and cordiality of all staff members during the course of the inspections. After the Summation Conference, the Acting Director of Laboratory Medicine Dr. Malek Kamoun, as proxy for Director Dr. Irving Nachamkin, conveyed his gratitude and appreciation for a job well done to all the inspectors as well as to the laboratory staff, supervisors, managers, and faculty during the CAP inspection.
