The Penn Center for Innovation (PCI) hosted its fifth annual Celebration of Innovation on December 2, 2020. The Keynote by Dr. Jonathan A. Epstein, MD, Executive Vice Dean and Chief Scientific Officer, highlighted the work of Penn Medicine researchers to tackle COVID, from vaccine development, to patient care and diagnostic testing. Among the efforts noted were those of Drs. Drew Weissman, Cesar de la Fuente, James Wilson, and Ping Wang, who are all leveraging their work to help in this critical public health fight.
Dr. Mike Milone's Cabaletta Bio was chosen as the PCI Start-Up of the Year.

PCI also notes that global patents in the field of CAR-T cell therapy show a changing landscape with fierce competition and intensive collaboration. A recent study by Nature Biotechnology ranked the top players in the global chimeric antigen receptor T (CAR-T) cell therapy patent landscape. The University of Pennsylvania is the highest-ranking assignee, and Drs. Carl June, Michael Milone, and Bruce Levine are in the top 10 of inventors.
