National Cervical Cancer Health Awareness Month
January 20, 2015
January is National Cervical Cancer Health Awareness Month. As part of a public-service campaign from the College of American Pathologists (CAP), Roseann Wu, MD, FCAP, Assistant Professor of Clinical Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, helped to raise awareness for the importance of early detection in the prevention of cervical cancer to help women live healthier lives. She also encouraged parents to speak with their children’s pediatrician about the HPV vaccine as a way to protect young people against this potentially deadly disease. Dr. Wu personalized a letter to the editor developed by CAP to delivery these vital health messages. To date, Dr. Wu's letter has been published in four local newspapers, including the Philadelphia Inquirer (online and print editions); the Bucks County Courier, the Daily Journal, the Burlington County Times, and the Cherry Hill Courier Post. More than 645,000 readers were reached to receive this important health information.
