Rachel L. Sargent, MD, joined Penn Medicine and the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine as an Assistant Professor of Clinical Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, and Attending Physician in the Section of Hematopathology within the Division of Laboratory Medicine effective August 15, 2014. Dr. Sargent received her medical degree from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey Robert Wood Medical School in 2001. She completed her residency in the Pathology and Laboratory Medicine program at HUP in 2004. She went on to complete a fellowship in Surgical Pathology at HUP from 2004-2005. During her fellowship at HUP she received the Arthur Purdy Stout Society Award from USCAP for demonstrating an ongoing commitment to furthering excellence in academic surgical pathology.
Dr. Sargent went on to complete fellowships at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, Presbyterian Hospital and The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Hematopathology and Molecular Genetic Pathology respectively. She is certified by the American Board of Pathology and American Board of Medical Genetics in Molecular Genetic Pathology as well as in Hematology and Anatomic and Clinical Pathology. Dr. Sargent began her professional career at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in 2008 as Attending Physician and Assistant Professor of Hematopathology. Dr. Sargent is dedicated to excellence in clinical hematopathology, teaching, and research, with a special interest in genomic profiling of hematologic malignancies.
