The Promise of Immunoprophylaxis by Gene Transfer (IGT)

A recent New York Times article discussing I.G.T. or "immunoprophylaxis by gene transfer" profiles research by James M. Wilson, MD, PhD, director of the Orphan Disease Center and the Gene Therapy Program. Dr. Wilson has applied gene therapy to treat cystic fibrosis and recently published research that demonstrated broad protection in animal models against pandemic flu strains by using viruses carrying antibody genes into airway cells. His lab is now working on gene-therapy protection against other lethal viruses, including Ebola.
