Laboratory Medicine, Transfusion Medicine & Therapeutic Pathology

Expertise

I am a transfusion medicine physician and clinical informaticist with a strong interest in, and experience with, the application of clinical informatics to clinical pathology.  My primary interest is improving communication between the laboratory and front-line clinical care. More than any other specialty, pathology makes its clinical impact based on how effectively we communicate with front line providers, and increasingly, that communication is through the electronic medical record. I am passionate about the use of technology as well as change management principles to ensure that the work that we do in pathology is ordered and interpreted effectively for patient care, and to engrain the use of data to drive operational decisions and needs

In practice, this translates into work in clinical lab operations, specifically lab harmonization, test utilization, results display, and clinical decision support, and requires active collaboration with other clinical departments.
