PATIENT RESOURCES

Patient Resources

Pathologists are an integral part of the health care and are often called “the doctor’s doctors” because they work in conjunction with your physician to find the most accurate diagnoses and treatment plans for your well-being. There are a number of things you can do to contribute in this process.

The American Association for Clinical Chemistry has put together a useful guide for understanding Lab Reports. The webpage includes links to an interactive sample lab report that provides explanations of the elements found on a typical lab report, and articles on reference ranges, quality, and reliability of lab tests, as well as the patient’s role in the testing process.

Consumer Reports has collected health information about tests and treatments with plain-language guides to prepare for discussions and decisions  about the most commonly used tests, imaging methods, drugs and procedures.

Penn Medicine offers a Patient Care page  to assist you in finding general information that will be helpful for you, including information about insurance plans, financial assistance, and bills, as well as appointments and visitor information. Access to myPennMedicine is located here , while more pathology- and lab-medicine-related information can also be found in this site's resources for patients section.
