Blood Bank
Description
The Blood Bank and Transfusion Service provides the necessary pre-transfusion testing for the provision of over 65,000 blood and blood products per year at the HUP. Testing platforms include conventional tube testing, automated and manual solid phase testing, and manual gel testing. The reference lab section of the Blood Bank performs complex immunohematology testing and antibody identification. The Blood Bank also works up suspected transfusion reactions, prenatal and newborn antigen and antibody testing, and processes autologous blood collected in our Division’s Apheresis Unit. The blood bank is accredited by the AABB and CAP.
