Every day, between 12,000 and 15,000 specimens (blood samples and other fluids, tissues, etc.) make their way to the pathology labs at Penn Medicine, where more than 6,000 different types of tests are performed. HUPdate recently visited the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine to provide a behind-the-scenes look at its lab operations. Highlights include the Automated Laboratory's new "Power Express" track to improve efficiency, speed, and turnaround time, and the specially trained staff at Central Receiving.
