New Faculty in GI/Liver Pathology Group

The Division of Anatomic Pathology, Surgical Pathology Section, welcomes Zhaohai Yang, MD, PhD, to the Department. Dr. Yang completed his medical training at Beijing Medical University (Peking University) in Beijing, China, and received his PhD in Cell and Molecular Biology from the University of Pennsylvania in 2001, where he received the Louis B. Flexner Student Prize for Outstanding Dissertation Research. He did postdoctoral research at Penn in the Department of Neuroscience from 2001-2004 and in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine from 2004-2005.

Dr. Yang completed a residency in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology at University of Alabama Birmingham in 2009, followed by a one-year fellowship in Gastrointestinal Pathology at that same institution and a one-year fellowship in Oncologic Surgical Pathology at Memorial Sloan Kettering in New York. In 2010, Dr. Yang was appointed as Assistant Professor of Pathology at Pennsylvania State College of Medicine in Hershey, PA, where he was promoted to Associate Professor in 2016. At Penn State he was the Director of the Pathology core at the Penn State Institute of Personalized Medicine and the Medical Director of Autopsy and Decendent Care Services. His career has concentrated in GI and Liver Pathology and he is the author of a review article on gastroenteroneuroendocrine neoplasms, which is in the top-five most highly cited papers in Seminars in Diagnostic Pathology. He is the author of over 50 peer reviewed papers, chapters and review articles. Dr. Yang will be providing clinical service in our GI/Liver Pathology group.
