The Association for Molecular Pathology today announced the results of its 2016 Leadership Elections. The University of Pennsylvania is represented on its Board of Directors and its Hematopathology Subdivision. Kojo Elenitoba-Johnson, MD, the Peter C. Nowell, M.D., Professor in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, was elected to serve as President-Elect in 2017 and will serve as AMP's President in 2018. A resident alumna of the Department, Dr. Jennifer Hunt, Chair of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, also served as AMP President in 2013.

Rachel Sargent, MD, Assistant Professor of Clinical Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, will serve as Hematopathology Nominating Committee Representative in the Hematopathology Subdivision from 2017-2018. Candidacies for future AMP service can be submitted to the Nominating Committee at the Annual Meeting in Charlotte, NC, in November. The Association for Molecular Pathology (AMP) was founded in 1995 to provide structure and leadership to the emerging field of molecular diagnostics. Its more than 2,300 members practice in the various disciplines of molecular diagnostics, including infectious diseases, inherited conditions and oncology. They include individuals from academic and community medical centers, government, and industry; including pathologist and doctoral scientist laboratory directors; basic and translational scientists; technologists; and trainees.
