Dr. Virginia LiVolsi Receives the 2022 President’s Award of the Arthur Purdy Stout Society of Surgical Pathologists

Virginia A. LiVolsi, MD, Professor of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine and Professor of Otorhinolaryngology: Head and Neck Surgery, is the 2022 recipient of the President’s Award of the Arthur Purdy Stout Society of Surgical Pathologists in her recognition of her substantial contributions to the field of surgical pathology. The award was presented at the Arthur Purdy Stout Society Companion Meeting during the United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology Annual Meeting in Los Angeles, California, on March 20, 2022.

Dr. LiVolsi is a world-renowned specialist in endocrine cancers, thyroid, parathyroid pathology, and gynecological pathology. Her long list of illustrious accomplishments includes serving as Chair of the Pathology Panel Chernobyl Thyroid Tumor project, former president of both the Arthur Purdy Stout Society for Surgical Pathologists and the Association of Directors of Anatomic/Surgical Pathology, and as a Member of the Board of Editors of American Journal of Clinical Pathology.

The APSS President’s Award was established in 2010 by its Board of Trustees to recognize a member for distinguished service in the discipline of surgical pathology. The Arthur Purdy Stout Society of Surgical Pathologists is composed of pathologists dedicated to excellence in teaching, research and practice of surgical pathology. Surgical pathology is defined as the practice of medicine devoted to the diagnosis of disease based on observable cellular and tissue changes in specimens removed from living patients.
