September 21, 2018
This year's The Pathologist Magazine's "Power List 2018" celebrates 100 inspirational and influential professionals in pathology and laboratory medicine. Lauren Schwartz, MD, Assistant Professor of Clinical Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, and Zubair Baloch, MD, PhD, Professor of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, are included as two of the best, brightest, and most powerful advocates of the profession.
Dr. Schwartz's subspecialty concentrations are gynecological and genitourinary pathology. She was cited for her dedication to working with trainees at all levels. Dr. Baloch was cited as “an inspiration for pathologists” in his nominations, which acknowledge his strong record of authorship (over 150 peer-reviewed publications, chapters, and monographs), his teaching (including lectures, workshops, and short courses), and his influence on social media, particularly on Twitter. Dr. Baloch’s expertise lies in thyroid pathology, as exemplified by his work on the development of the Bethesda Thyroid FNA Classification Scheme.
Now in its fourth year, "The Pathologist" magazine publishes its annual "Top 100 Power List" to highlight influential pathologists and laboratory medicine professionals. Previous Department members include Chair Dr. David Roth as one of the top influential 2015 pathologists worldwide, as well as Roseann I. Wu, MD, MPH, Assistant Professor, Nicole Riddle, MD, 2011-13 Bone and Soft-Tissue Fellow at Pennsylvania Hospital, and Marcos Lepe, MD, 2018-19 Cytopathology Fellow at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, as 2016 "rising stars" of the profession.
