March 28, 2018

The Clinical Microbiology Fellowship program in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine recently underwent a re-accreditation inspection and received full re-accreditation approval for a seven-year period by the Committee on Postdoctoral Education Programs (CPEP) of the American Society for Microbiology. The two-year post graduate program trains both PhDs and MDs in Medical and Public Health Microbiology for careers as laboratory directors in academic and other settings. Graduates of the training program are subsequently eligible for board certification by the American Board of Medical Microbiology. Jointly sponsored by the PLM departments at HUP and CHOP, the program has been training future clinical microbiologists for over 20 years. Irving Nachamkin, DrPH, MPH,  Professor and Director of the Division of Laboratory Medicine at HUP and Ana Cardenas, PhD, Assistant Professor and Director, Infectious Diseases Diagnostics Laboratory at CHOP are the program co-directors.
