Each year, Philadelphia Magazine compiles its "Top Doctors" list of the region's best physicians. Eight out of the 13 top pathologists in the region are Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine faculty members. They are among the 476 Penn physicians who were included in the 2018 list published in the May issue. The top pathologists are Adam Bagg, MD (specialties hematopathology, leukemia and lymphoma, myelodysplastic syndromes), Zubair W. Baloch, MD, PhD (specialties endocrine pathology, cytopathology, and ENT pathology), John J. Brooks, MD, FRCPath (PAH, specialties bone and soft-tissue pathology, sarcoma), David E. Elder, MBChB (specialty dermatopathology), Franz Fogt, MD (PPMC, specialties gastrointestinal pathology, ophthalmic pathology), Virginia A. LiVolsi, MD (specialties endocrine cancers, thyroid, parathyroid pathology, gynecological pathology), Robert B. Wilson, MD, PhD (CHOP, specialty molecular genetic pathology), and Xiaowei (George) Xu, MD, PhD (specialty dermatopathology).
